This is a gallery of just some of our Fancy Lovebird babies and a few of their natural parents. Lovebirds are from Africa. Their scientific name is Agapornis roseicollis.
Lovebirds are extremely energetic little clowns. Lovebirds love to play and do acrobatics. They need a lot of toys to keep them busy, but I would suggest to never get them a mirror. Lovebirds like to snuggle on their owner's shoulder and preen them; sometimes getting a little rough.
A single lovebird makes a better pet. It tends to bond closely with its owner and acts like its mate. Sometimes they will act as though they are feeding their owner. To keep a lovebird tame, you must spend a lot of time with them!
Lovebirds can reach maturity at about 6 months. At this time, you can notice that the females especially are becoming a little testy. Sometimes not a little testy, but a lot testy. Male lovebirds tend to stay more gentle.
We take our babies at 3 weeks old from their parents. This allows them to receive the important nutrients that their parents provide which enable the babies to be very healthy. We hand-feed the babies until they are weaned. We do not force wean our babies. During and after their weaning, they eat a mixture of 1 part Zupreem Pellets (cockatiel size), 1 part Sunshine Snack Attack Fruits and Veggie Mix (finch size), and 2 parts Cockatiel Seed. They also have millet hanging in their playpen, egg food, cuddle bone, and a water bottle. This provides for them a very healthy and well rounded diet of fruits, veggies, protein, and grains.
